September 27, 2008 Evening meal

Friday, September 26th, 2008

Hi everyone,

Yes, a surprise post. But Chuck is going to eat a “Shaggy Mane Mushroom (Coprinus Comatus).” He has become a mycologist (aka mushroom freak) and is starting to explore the edible environment. So if you don’t see him again, you know why. Here’s his meal.

Wish us well.

Mandy and her guardian Angel.

But seriously, folks, watch this head movement.

Here’s another series I will call “Halter Lesson.”

Taylor, now it is your turn.

Hi everyone, just trying to be true to my resolution of taking a picture every day. This blog helps me stay honest. So far I’ve done it!

Today a lot of the girls went to a WAHA sponsored show out at Bounds. I have a big project I’m working on at home, so I just came out for a short visit. Here’s Maddy doing Saddle Seat.

And after a quick tack change, on to hunt seat. You can ask Jamie all about the “quick change.” Thank you J for all your help. Sorry I missed it.

Here’s Taylor rounding the bend on Royce.

Here come Erin on Amber and Maddy on Monty.

Back at the trailor, everyone was hanging out. It was a warm day.

Jill is getting lots of love and attention.

Back home Duke shows off his latest kill. I returned to finish up my project.

Not long after, the girls came home with all their winnings.

September 22nd. Another misty morning. The cool nights and warm days bring on a lot of these.

September 23, 2008 Happy Birthday Haley

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

I know you all think it is the morning of September 24th, but honestly, it is still the 23rd and we have time to wish Haley a Happy Birthday…or perhaps a belated one.

As you can see, I took this photo on the 23rd. While walking by Safire’s stall, she turned to me and said, “would you tell Haley Happy Birthday from me?” I was so blown away by her talking that I went through the day in a daze (that and serious cold medicine). By the time I came in last night, I fell asleep in my soup. So…Haley, Happy Birthday. I hope it was a wonderful day for you.

Happy Birthday Haley!!

Tuesday, September 23

Just a few random pictures today, in honor of Haley’s randomness, of course.

You can’t quite tell what this is, but basically I did my homework in a willow tree the other day.  The weather has been just amazing and I can’t bear to spend time indoors.

The flora was lovely too.

I liked the shadow on this one, even though you can’t see the flower very well.

This is Rand hall, where the architects do their drafting.  I don’t know any architects.  Neither does anyone else.  As far as we can work out, they just live in Rand.  The signs up in the windows say things like, “Help!” “What am I doing here?” and “Someone get me coffee!”

Ihad work again today, and it didn’t leave me nearly so exhausted.  Probably because I can drive the tractor now, so I don’t just shovel all day long.  I also accidentally recruited one of my floor mates to work with me.  She used to ride and was in love with it, but because of an eye defect she can’t ride anymore.  Apparently excessive bouncing could cause her retinas to tear.  Ouch.  But she loves being around horses so much that when I mentioned my new job, she started jumping up and down she was so excited at the prospect of working there.  Well, all but the early mornings.

Here’s the polo ponies all out in the arena.  The really interesting picture of course would be them all running up the aisle to get to the arena, but I’m actually supposed to be doing stuff during all that.  I just snapped this one on my way out.  I think a new employee who stood around taking pictures like she had never seen a horse before might be a little odd…  I’ll wait until they know me better.  Well, until they know me well enough to know I’m a different type of odd.

Speaking of odd…  My roommate got her new sleeping bag in the mail the other day, and was so excited she had to try it out.  She’s going on a rock climbing trip with the Cornell Outing Club soon and needed to be prepared.  She said it was so warm she wanted to use it in the dorm– she’s a Californian, and not so used to the cold.  I’m a little worried about her, because it’s hardly chilly yet and she’s been sleeping in long underwear, fleece, and a down comforter.  Hope she toughens up before real winter hits.

Right now, though, it’s hard to imagine more perfect weather.

IMPORTANT - Farrier Visit on Tuesday, Sept. 23

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

Hi everyone,

John is coming on Tuesday. If you horse is rough board, please bring your horse up Monday night and put he/she in the large paddock next to the arena. Spice can go in the lean-to paddock with Sugura and Sweet Marie. If anyone feels like bringing those two up, please do. All help will be appreciated.

Please leave your checks in the lower barn on the bulletin board. There’s a chance John may not get through all of our horses. If your horse is not done on Tuesday, he will reschedule another day soon.

Thanks,

Lori

It is a very foggy morning. I keep trying to clean my glasses.

It seems like the fog is getting thicker.

Spice and Athena at the water cooler.

It is another foggy morning. These cool nights and warm days make for some interesting weather.

When I turn around from looking at the horses in the pasture, this is what I see. Just amazing.

Except for the dirt spot on my camera lens, this is one beautiful sunset.

Again, Chuck is doing chores so I can do other things. Here’s a picture out the kitchen window, but I missed the horse parade.

During evening chores, I found this green grasshopper hanging out.

Chuck did morning chores today, because I had other things going on. So I’m taking these photos from the kitchen window. Here’s Cowboy walking out to pasture.

Monty isn’t so sure about walking down. So he waits and observes.

Slowly he moves forward.

He’s getting there.

Athena comes along and encourages him to get moving.
